The University's wide range of industry links informs courses and helps you develop the tools necessary to find and succeed in employment. The majority of degree programmes give you the option of a professional placement year and/or internship — usually in your third year so you can gain first-hand experience, which can greatly enhance your degree and subsequent employment prospects. Many degree options are also flexible, meaning you can tailor your course to suit your interests and career goals.

Work after study

Start your career in the UK with the new Graduate Immigration Route – a 2-year post-study work visa or international students graduating from UK universities. You’ll be able to work for up to two years after graduating with your valid Student visa. Study a pathway programme and take the first step towards working in the UK.

Dedicated careers support

Careers support starts at the International Study Centre. With our support, you will develop a range of skills for success, such as teamwork, problem solving and communication. Staff will also help you to create a personal development plan for your time at university and beyond.

During your time at Cardiff University, you will have access to the Careers and Employability service. Here, you can get specialist careers advice, from help writing CVs to interview preparation. You can also search for work experience opportunities. You will also be able to work with a career adviser linked to your academic school, for additional tailored support. You will have the option to complete the Cardiff Award, tracking your volunteering, work experience, and employability skills through an online platform.

Make a difference

Cardiff Volunteering, based in the Students’ Union, offers a variety of opportunities to get involved in the local community. As well as making a difference, you will also develop key employability skills such as leadership and time management, to get you noticed by employers. Volunteering opportunities include:

  • Primary school volunteering - from one-on-one reading with young pupils, to helping on school trips.
  • Digital Champions - teaching vulnerable groups how to use computers and the internet.
  • Waste Not Want Not - collecting unused food from the University and Students' Union and redistributing it to those in need.
